Community Action Grant
Focus 2020 (in partnership with the Peace Learning Center of Indianapolis) is a series of workshops geared towards Hoosiers focusing on the future - strategizing how to create a better, more welcoming community by the year 2020.
Our Project: #BeReconciled
In 2015, we will host 6-10 Educational Segments. These [Segments] will take place in diverse community settings. During the Segments, we'll give a presentation and facilitate dialogue related to:
1) what reconciliation is
2) how we [as individuals and as a community] can pursue it, and
3) what it looks like when achieved.
The presentation will consist of story-telling, video clips, and group discussions based on the poster pictured below on the right.
What's Your "Claim to Change?":
At the conclusion of each Segment, we'll engage participants in art activities to visualize what we can do to express our "Claim to Change." Participants will be able to walk away with the opportunity to identify what they'll practically implement in their lives to remove themselves of a burden, restore a relationship, or stand for justice.
Additionally, we'll photograph participants holding a sign proclaiming their "Claim to Change." Once all Educational Segments conclude by October 2015, we'll compile all photographs into one graphically designed collage. This collage will then be printed as a ginormous puzzle to be displayed in public venues (such as churches, libraries, and businesses), and eventually in our very own #BeReconciled Art Gallery complemented by the Las Casas Fair Trade Gift Shop!
Claim Your Piece to the Puzzle:
The idea behind a ginormous puzzle is to conceptualize the unity of our reconciled community. Puzzle pieces alone are broken images, but together make the art. We are 'auctioning' off puzzle pieces to Contributors. Each Contributor will be recorded in our Directory of Amigos, and we will put your name on the back of a puzzle piece, visible for display in the final Art Gallery.
The funds offered by Contributors will attribute to the sustainability of our Fair Trade efforts as we're seeking a long-term permanent location to house both a fair trade gift shop alongside the #BeReconciled Art Gallery. In the meantime, we're developing plans to create a permanent outdoor sculpture that would further embrace the 'Claim to Change' mentality; funds are needed at this time to see this plan become a reality.
